About South Valley Academy: Before You Apply
South Valley Academy is a free and public charter school, available to all through our lottery process. What sets SVA apart is that it is a school of choice, meaning that families have actively chosen to enroll their students here instead of attending larger, more traditional APS schools. We proudly offer a variety of after-school programs and activities that align with our mission and vision, supporting academics, social justice, service learning, and pathways to college. Middle school and high school athletics are available through the Albuquerque Charter School League.
Our smaller school size, rigor yet flexibility in curriculum, and responsive policies enable us to deliver a higher standard of community engagement, learning, and a rich, multi-faceted educational experience for our students. At SVA our main focus is on academic excellence in preparation for college and post-secondary pursuits.
Excellence, Community, Service, Transformation
South Valley Academy is dedicated to achieving academic excellence while fostering meaningful relationships in our community. Through Service Learning, our students gain a deep appreciation for serving others in their community, transforming themselves and their community into well-rounded and compassionate individuals. SVA’s vision is to “prepare young people to become independent, lifelong learners who are ready for college, career, and civic engagement.”
Our commitment to you
At South Valley Academy, we are dedicated to creating a safe and secure environment for all students to learn and grow. South Valley Academy is an inclusive school, where we prioritize our students and families feeling empowered to have a strong voice and be actively involved in their education. Our graduates will be equipped to lead a life of meaningful contribution after they leave South Valley Academy.
Your commitment to us
At South Valley Academy, we challenge our students to expand their educational horizons with college as a key aspiration after graduation. We expect all students to be academically engaged, ready to work each day, and committed to being a positive influence on those around them. SVA provides an academically rigorous environment, and students should anticipate homework each night to support their learning.
Every student is responsible for practicing SVA’s Three Ts on a daily basis, making sure to: Take care of yourself, take care of others, and take care of this place. Students who do not meet these expectations – both academic and non-academic – will be held accountable for their actions as a part of our expectations of personal growth and responsibility.
