Social Work at South Valley Academy

The Social Work department's mission is to support students, families and educators to increase positive social and emotional wellbeing, by helping them address larger issues affecting their ability to function within the school setting. We do this by addressing Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, starting with the physiological, then safety, love and belonging, esteem and self-actualization.

Hi, my name is Rosa Caro, LMSW. I graduated from SVA in 2008 and came back after college to give back to the community that provided me with so much love and support throughout my

adolescence. I have been working at SVA for 6 years and I LOVE IT! I speak Spanish my family is from Mexico :). I love to workout, eat, and hangout with my family. I am here to help all my students and families with anything they need don't hesitate to contact me :)!

Me gradué de SVA en 2008 y regresé después de la universidad para retribuir a la comunidad que me brindó tanto amor y apoyo durante mi adolescencia. ¡Llevo 6 años trabajando en SVA y me ENCANTA! Hablo español mi familia es de México :). Me encanta entrenar, comer y pasar el rato con mi familia. My name is Claudia DeSantiago-Romero, LCSW. I graduated from NM Highlands University in 2018 with my Masters in Social Work, and from the University of New Mexico in 2013 with my Bachelors in Community Health Education. I have lived in the Westgate area of Albuquerque for most of my life and I am happy to now be working and giving back to my community. I enjoy spending my time thrifting, watching my daughter and stepdaughter play soccer, watching a good show and spending time with my husband. My role here at SVA is to support students and families, so please don't hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns.

Mi nombre es Claudia DeSantiago-Romero, LCSW. Me gradué de la Universidad de NM Highlands en el 2018 con mi Maestría en Trabajo Social y de la Universidad de Nuevo México en el 2013 con mi Licenciatura en Educación de Salud Comunitaria. He vivido en el área de Westgate de Albuquerque la mayor parte de mi vida y estoy feliz de estar trabajando ahora y retribuyendo a mi comunidad. Disfruto pasar mi tiempo de compras, viendo a mi hija y mi hijastra jugar fútbol, ver una buena serie y pasar tiempo con mi esposo. Hello, my name is Mrs. Jessica. I graduated from New Mexico Highlands University in 2019 with my Masters in Social Work, and 2004 from the University of New Mexico with my Bachelor of Fine Arts. I’m a native mixed-race Norteño, and am a strong advocate for supporting the needs within our community and youth. My interests include making art and jewelry, traveling, and spending time in nature with my family. I'm always available for any help you may need!

Hello, my name is Ms. Stefanie! I graduated from New Mexico Highlands University with my Masters in Social Work in 2021 and from The University of New Mexico with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. I love working with our youth and being able to be a part of their growth and the impact they will one day have in our community if not already! Further than this, I enjoy reading, decorating, eating, shopping, and spending time with my family. HABLO ESPAÑOL!
