High School Special Education

South Valley Academy adheres to an inclusive model of education. Special education services are provided within the general education setting by accommodating and modifying curriculum and, as determined by Individualized Education Programs, through in-class support of a special education teacher and/or educational assistant. Special education services are also available during IDEAL, office hours, and at other times as determined according to the needs of students.

Josephine Caproni
Director of Special Education

Josephine Caproni is a dual-certified special and general educator who began teaching in 2004. She was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia.  It was there that she received her Bachelor of Arts from Georgia State University where she studied Film & Video and Literature.  Once she completed her undergraduate degree, Ms. Caproni moved to New York City and began her teaching career at an elementary school in the South Bronx.  While teaching, Ms. Caproni earned her Master of Science in Childhood and Special Education at the City University of New York.  Simultaneous with a move to teach and coordinate special education at a high-performing charter middle school in Harlem, Ms. Caproni also participated in a fellowship to complete her Advanced Master’s degree in School Leadership at Bank Street Graduate School of Education. After leaving New York City, Ms. Caproni has spent time in Kingston, Jamaica, and taught in New Orleans.  She made her way to Albuquerque, New Mexico in 2010 and is excited to have found a professional home as the Director of Special Education at South Valley Academy.  In her free time, Ms. Caproni enjoys traveling, spending time with loved ones (including her dog, Yardie), and experiencing new things and cultural events.
