South Valley Academy, a successful public charter school in the South Valley, serving primarily first-generation college bound, low-income, Mexican immigrant students, seeks an experienced and highly motivated, dynamic instructional leader to oversee culturally responsive curriculum implementation, response to intervention, and professional development beginning in July 2019.  Candidates must have strong administrative and personal skills with proven success mentoring teachers and working with low-income, Latino students. South Valley Academy is an equal opportunity employer and an inclusive school committed to social justice.

Job Requirements

  • Background check
  • Master's degree
  • New Mexico Level 3 teaching license
  • Five (5) years middle or high school teaching experience
  • Middle or high school administrative experience
  • Experience with compiling and analyzing data to inform growth
  • A committment to serving English Language Learners
  • Familiarity with state guidelines pertaining to teacher, student evaluation

  • Three letters of reference addressing the qualifications as best able. One letter of recommendation must come from a teacher for whom the candidate has mentored or supported within the last three years.

Educational Qualifications

  • Demonstrates strong academic achievement and significant professional development after graduation.
  • Understanding the academic needs of low-income, Latino students.
  • Understanding the role of public education in a social justice context and the role of charter schools in relation to implmenting education reform. 

Educational Experience (preferred areas)

  • Experience successfully working with low-income students of color including knowledge of curricula and programs that foster academic achievement of diverse student populations.
  • Experience working in a charter school or other public school setting.
  • Experience working in a small school and in the promotion of the small school movement.
  • Experience in promoting best practices through presenting workshops/seminars.

Leadership

  • Ability to communicate a clear vision and goals and work collaboratively.
  • Ability to successfully work within a school/work environment which values and fosters collaboration.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with teachers in an institution built upon democratic principles.
  • Demonstrated success in elevating school-wide performance and/or student classroom outcomes.
  • Experience working with local officials and in organizing and motivating community/leadrs to affect change.
  • Experience in curriculum development and teacher development.

Administrative Experience

  • Experience recruiting, attracting and retaining successful teachers/staff.
