Facts and Figures
Evidence of the progress at South Valley Academy can be seen in the success of its students, from those who enroll in college to those who return to the school to volunteer their services. It can be seen in the commitment and engagement of students, teachers, and parents. Success can be seen in programmatic strengths, from the integrated curriculum to the Service Learning initiative. Success is also seen in the student body’s stability and the faculty’s retention as well as the long waiting list of students hoping to attend South Valley Academy. School founders, Governing Council members, and the faculty have retained a steadfast commitment to the original vision and have been persistent in pursuing the school’s goals. They have planned and implemented an academic program that prepares students for college while simultaneously reinforcing service to address needs of this community.

Real Accountability, Real Results
In order to increase accountability and transparency in New Mexico schools, the Real Accountability, Real Results initiative originally proposed by Governor Martinez adopts an easy-to-understand, easy-to-implement system of grading schools, using the traditional school grading format of A-F. This year South Valley Academy received a score of “B” on its school report. South Valley Academy’s School Grading Report shows that we are outperforming the state in all categories. In addition, we are outperforming high schools with a similar demographic as ours.

Annual Yearly progress, better known as AYP, represents the annual academic targets in reading and math and other indicators that the state, school districts and schools must reach to be considered on track with the federally mandated goal of 100% proficiency by school year 2013-2014.
In School Year 2010-2011, 47% of our students at South Valley Academy were proficient in reading. In mathematics, 31% of our students were proficient.
Graduation Rate:
In addition to reading and math, every school must meet AYP targets in one other academic indicator. For schools with a 12th grade, that indicator is their overall cohort graduation rate.
In School Year 2010-2011, 68.6% of South Valley Academy students graduated within four years.
In addition to AYP graduation measures, we have developed our own graduation measures based on the number of students who do not voluntarily transfer away from South Valley Academy.
Goal 3 of our charter reads: Eighty percent of the student who do not voluntarily transfer away from South Valley Academy will graduate within five years of entering.
